More than
a job title
I’m Johanes. I design products, then make sure they survive the trip into code. Most of my work has come through agencies — consumer apps, financial platforms, internal tools, and plenty that never had a public face.
Classic rigour, lean tempo: research, define, prototype, test — none of it skipped, all of it compressed. What I care about most is the moment a design stops being a picture and becomes something a team can build.
When I’m not designing
I think the people worth working with are interesting outside the work too. So: a bow, a pair of running shoes, an oven that sees more action than it should, and a cat with strong opinions.
Cat person
Non-negotiable. She supervises most of my work and contributes nothing.
Hiking
Long walks uphill with too much in the bag. Best thinking I do all month.
Baking
Cookies, mostly. The one discipline where following the spec exactly is the whole craft.
The gym
Progressive overload is iterative design with heavier feedback.

- Repetition until the boring part becomes the good part.
- Cooking
- Improvised, unlike the baking — this is where I ignore the spec.
- Running
- Slowly, and with great commitment to finishing.
- Reading
- Two books at once, usually finishing neither on schedule.
- Markets
- Stocks, crypto, and whatever web3 is doing this month. Not a side interest I picked up from the work — it's why I went looking for the work.
